LUANDA, Angola (AP) -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has arrived in oil-rich Angola to underscore America's presence in one of sub-Saharan Africa's largest energy producers where America is competing with China for resources.
Clinton was meeting Sunday with Angolan President Eduardo dos Santos and other officials in the former Cold War battleground to discuss good governance and greater cooperation with a country that supplies petroleum and liquid natural gas to the U.S. market.
Last year, Angola overtook Saudi Arabia as China's leading source of crude oil. U.S. officials say Clinton's visit is intended to demonstrate the Obama administration's interest in keeping America in Africa's energy game as well as well cooperating on climate change.
