All over the region, animal shelters have too many cats.

That's why staff at the Multnomah County Animal Services is offering a special discount for cat lovers to make sure the shelter's fabulous felines find wonderful homes.

"Simply put, we are taking in more cats than are being adopted out and we're out of space,'' said Animal Services director Mike Oswald. "Our adoption placement partners are experiencing similar scenarios and are limited in how many cats they can accept from us right now."

That's why County Animal Services is offering a"Name Your Price" adoption special for cats. The deal is good until the shelter's cat population reaches a more sustainable level (dogs are not included) – keeping in mind "kitten season" usually lasts through August.

As many as 30 additional cats and kittens arrive at the shelter everyday – and at Portland's only open door shelter, stray cats and kittens are never turned away.
