On Feb. 23, the Oregon Historical Society will present the exhibit “Catching Birds with a Camera: Finley, Bohlman, and the Photographs that Launched Oregon's Conservation Movement.”
Dedicated bird watchers William L. Finley, Irene Finely and Herman T. Bohlman explored the wilderness of turn-of-the-century Portland, photographing the hidden lives of their avian neighbors and captivating the public with their artistic observations. Working closely with Nature Magazine, the photographers produced a wealth of enchanting images, inspired interest in the ecological conditions of western North America, and influenced the development of Oregon’s first wildlife refuges.
“Catching Birds with a Camera” will run from February 23, 2018 to June 10, 2018 at the Oregon Historical Society, 1200 SW Park Ave, Portland, OR 97205.
