A distinguished group of former high-ranking officials are calling for a paradigm shift in the way the global governmental communities deals with illicit drugs.
The former presidents of Brazil, Columbia, Mexico and Switzerland, the Prime Minister of Greece, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, former Secretary of State George Shultz, former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker and a host of other officials, intellectuals, businessmen and others are all calling for nations to decriminalize currently illegal drugs and even experiment with different models of legalization.
A press conference is scheduled at 11 a.m. EST on June 2 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. The group – the Global Commission on Drug Policy – will be releasing a report that describes the current military-style approach to drug prohibition as an utter failure.
